Evanescence:a Christian band??

I was reading the "special thanks" notes in an "evanescence" cd booklet just recently. 2 of the artists thank God for playing such a big part in their music career. I thought that was really cool- until a couple of days ago. You see, I was on www.walmart.com and at the top of the screen on the webpages banner guess what it said? "EVANESCENCE' LATEST CD BANNED FOR USE OF THE "F" WORD"!!! I couldn't believe it! I bought their first CD and liked it-but now not only have they contradicted their "faith" by using that word in their song, they've lost a whole bunch of christian support. WORLD magazine said that you could draw many christian values out of their songs, yet they lost their nomination for the DOVE awards because of use of profanity in an interview. They lost all that because they chose to add a word to the song that the song could have done without.

Wow! I personally don't know anything about the band, I've only heard the name a few times, but I am (unfortuantly) not very surprised at this.

At school, there are a few people who say they're christians, but I don't even like to be around them, because they let their mouth run. It is pretty sad that people who claim to be christians do not really walk out that life. They make others think that there is really nothing different about being a christian.

OMG! I didnt know that they dropped the f-bomb in 1 of there songs! I always thought it was so cool how they had christian themes and stuff in their music. But that really stinks :-(

Yes, that is definetly the case. I see that happen a lot. A great deal of "christian" bands do not look like christian bands. And just because someone claims to know Christ does not mean that they are Christians. And it's even worse when a band has Christian themes then turns "bad". But maybe they were bad from the first and just wanted to get listeners. Who knows?

Right now I'm listenig to their music and their music sounds really good but after finding out all this I am too shocked. I heard the name and I wasn't sure if it was at school or Youth group. I think if they regrouped and change over from the mainstream to the christian then they would sell a lot of records. But I guess you can't sell alot of anything unless you meet the world standards. Yeah right Look at Demon Hunter, UnderOath, Relient K, and Switchfoot even mainstream people are buying their CDs

while the use of the "F" word certainly is not uplifting in regards to the band, we as christians often hurt ourselves by pointing a finger and saying..."that person said this word they can't really be christians" or any number of other things that we say forgeting about the log in our own eyes. everyone is a sinner, everyone falls short of God's grace and rather then saying..."that's it im not listening to them anymore b/c of this" we need to PRAY for them, express our disaproval LOVINGLY and not forget that our job is not to judge, nor is it to push people away just because they mess up sometimes!!!! A RIGHTGEOUS MAN FALLS SEVEN TIMES!! the beauty of it is God's grace and love can work through and with all of our inevitable downfalls. further more think of the pressure the band faces in the dangerous realm of fame!! what person when they fall would not appreciate a helping hand? Blessings to you all and to the band, that they will learn from their mistake and that in some way it is used to the glory of God!
